Fifth China-Eurasia Expo to build on success

FMPRC. Guests from 57 countries and six international organizations are expected to participate in the fifth China-Eurasia Expo, which is to be held in the northwestern Chinese city of Urumqi, capital of the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region from Sept 20 to 25.

Adiljan Dawut, deputy head of the International Expo Affairs Bureau in the region, said on Sept 6 that 2,192 enterprises will exhibit at the Expo, an increase of 40 percent over the previous expo.

“Among them, 418 are from outside the Chinese mainland. The number is more than double the total of 133 enterprises at the previous expo,” Dawut said.

The exhibition area has increased by nearly 60 percent to 140,000 square meters, he added.

The expo was upgraded from a regional trade fair-the 19-year-old China-Urumqi Foreign Economic Relations and Trade Fair-in September 2011. The first international event was held.

More than $6 billion worth of foreign trade contracts were signed with Chinese companies at the fourth China-Eurasia Expo held in the same city in September 2014.

Li Jingyuan, deputy director of the executive committee of the fifth China-Eurasia Expo, said the embassies of 10 countries in the Caribbean will take part in the expo for the first time and nearly 40 well-known brands from Germany will showcase their products at the German boutique.

“The highlights of the upcoming expo will be in-depth talks between Chinese State leaders and their foreign counterparts on the construction of the Silk Road economic belt, the first forum on legal service collaboration and the first women’s forum for countries along the Silk Road,” Li said.

Ten forums at the ministerial level will be held during the expo, including meetings for publicity ministers, quarantine officials and leaders from trade and commerce sections.
